June 2018 marks the 90th anniversary of the first trans-Pacific crossing by the legendary Sir Charles Kingsford Smith (or ‘Smithy’ as he was affectionately known at the time) and his brave crew.
On 9 June 1928, Smithy and his crew landed their Fokker VII/3m at Eagle Farm, at almost the exact location where Alliance Airlines offices and maintenance facilities are today located at what is now Brisbane Airport. Smithy’s Fokker was one of the earliest Fokker aircraft to ever visit Australia.
In commemoration of this historic event, Alliance has partnered with Newstead Brewing to offer our exclusive Alliance Airlines beer - “Smithy’s FGB” Golden Ale. Stock has just been distributed to the bases and will be on board selected flights shortly. It is also available for purchase by visiting www.smithysfgb.com.
As a further commemoration of Smithy’s remarkable achievement, will also be painting our 32nd aircraft (arriving in January) in the special livery shown below. The aircraft will also bear the registration mark VH-FGB.
