Our Focus on Safety

Airport Safety Week is a safety campaign that is specifically tailored to engage with employees and contractors working on an aerodrome. The campaign is collaboration between the Australian Airports Association (AAA) and the NZ Airports Association (NZ Airports). In August this year the week's overall theme was One Airport - One Team. The campaign aims to enhance and add to the safety conversation by encouraging all staff and contractors working on an aerodrome to consider their obligations to provide a safe environment for all airport users. The Quality, Safety & Commercial Departments produced and distributed relevant Safety Posters each day of the campaign. Additionally, Alliance Airlines managed ports of Adelaide, Townsville, Perth, Brisbane and Cape Preston also participated in an organised FOD (Foreign Object Damage) walk of their surrounding operational areas, and held a morning tea for all staff.

One of the most important aspects of any safety system is feedback and safety information received from employees. Each year, Alliance publishes a Safety Climate Review where staff are encouraged to provide honest feedback on potential safety concerns and evaluate the organisation’s safety performance. This valuable feedback assists the safety system to remain contemporary and aligned to current business activity. The results of the Safety Climate Review often drive various safety initiatives and promotion throughout the organisation. The Safety Climate Review is only one of many tools Alliance uses to ensure our safety system continues to align with world industry standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, over the last six months Alliance has increased our focus on reviewing of our airport ground service procedures and safety standards. In November we implemented hands on re-currency training with our Ground Operations and Training teams in a number of destinations including Cloncurry, Olympic Dam, Port Lincoln, Rockhampton, Emerald, Bundaberg, Port Macquarie, Ballera, Gladstone and Mount Isa. In addition, Alliance also implemented ramp and check in observations at all our main bases Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Townsville.

Subsequently, all Alliance Airlines ports across the network will have more opportunities to meet with our Ground Operations team to ensure that standards are maintained, potential hazards are identified, corrected, and monitored by Alliance’s internal safety management system.
